But before I list years behind the camera or the clients I’ve worked with, it’s important to understand that the work I do now didn’t happen overnight.
Like most good things, it’s been built slowly.
Over more than a decade, I’ve photographed thousands of people — professionals, founders, teams, and everyday business owners trying to show up well in the world.
Along the way, I noticed something.
Most people don’t need a full commercial production.
And they don’t want the stiff, school-photo-style headshot either.
What they really need sits somewhere in the middle.
Images that feel natural.
Professional without feeling corporate.
Confident without feeling posed.
That gap is what led to Headshot Collective.
After running a successful photography business for years — and even selling it — I realised something surprising.
Photography kept calling me back.
Not just the craft of it, but the moment when someone sees a photo of themselves and says, “That actually looks like me.”
Because when people feel confident in how they show up visually, everything changes.
They update the LinkedIn profile.
They launch the business.
They put themselves forward for the opportunity.

Shelly Willingham is a branding photographer and the founder of Headshot Collective, a modern photography studio specialising in professional portraits for founders, professionals and teams.
With more than 15 years behind the camera, Shelly has photographed thousands of professionals across Australia, helping them build stronger visual brands through modern, natural imagery. Her work focuses on capturing portraits that feel authentic, confident and credible — images designed to work across LinkedIn, websites, press features and professional platforms.
Earlier in her career, Shelly built and sold a successful photography business before returning to the craft to launch Headshot Collective. The studio was created to fill a growing gap in the market: photography that sits between the traditional corporate headshot and the full-scale branding shoot.
Today, Shelly works with professionals, entrepreneurs and organisations who understand that strong visual presence plays a critical role in modern business.
She is based in Picton in NSW’s Macarthur region and works with clients across Sydney and the Southern Highlands.
